Hudson River Maritime Museum: 19th Century Industry Lecture
Join us on Wednesday, June 6 for “Hudson Valley 19th Century Industries” with Allynne Lange, Curator Emerita of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. The second half of the 19th century (1800s) was a time of great industrial growth and activity in the Hudson Valley. There was plenty of work for local people at that time, much of it involving hard physical labor. The industries included in this illustrated talk are brick-making, bluestone quarrying, natural cement, ice harvesting, boat building, shipping, pottery making, and clothing manufacturing. Many of our ancestors worked in these occupations, most of which are long gone. 7:00 PM in the Riverport Wooden Boat School classroom. Suggested donation $5.
