HRMM: Shaker Tape Stool Class July 2 & 9

Spend the day on the Rondout Creek learning woodworking at the Hudson River Maritime Museum Wooden Boat School! During this 2-day introductory woodworking class, students will assemble and weave their own Shaker tape stool. The Shakers preferred to use tape on the seats and backs of stools and chairs for durability and strength and students will have fun exploring this historic art. On the first day of class, participants will start with a kit and assemble a stool and glue up all the joints. They will then be able to take the stool home for a week and apply a finish. Finishing ideas will be discussed in the first class. The next week, students will return for the second class to weave the seat of their stool with 100% cotton Shaker tape. This is a 2-evening class which takes place 6-9pm on Friday, July 2 and Friday, July 9. The class will be led by instructor Michael Puryear who is a furniture maker, studio designer, and teacher with 30 years of experience. He has taught college-level courses and has built a number of small wooden craft. Please register by April 29.
