HRMM Class: Ropework: Splicing, Whipping, and Making Grommets
The Hudson River Maritime Museum has partnered with the sail freight schooner Apollonia to offer unique classes at the Riverport Wooden Boat School while the vessel is at the museum's docks undergoing restoration work for several weeks in May, 2018.
Ropework: Splicing, Whipping & Making Grommets
Students will work with experienced sailor and knot enthusiast Christin Ripley to learn how to make eye splices for halyards and sheets, how to lay a grommet for rope strop blocks, and how to make proper whippings and seizings, including contrasting whipping to mark lines. All student-made products will be used on board the Apollonia.
