First Saturday Opening Reception
First Saturday Opening Reception of 2016!
Featuring two new exhibitions on view through January 30, 2016. The ASK members exhibition is Multi Media 2D/3D: Works incorporating more than one medium in two or three dimensions: collage, assemblage Anne Stanner Sculpture: Waves, Women & Other Wonders" The Arts Society of Kingston is pleased to present a spotlight exhibit featuring the sculpture of Anne Stanner. On view are her abstract and semi-abstract welded metal artworks along with her naturalistic figurative sculptures of other subjects in clay, plaster, aqua resin, cement, and bronze. Waves have been an abiding theme in Stanners oeuvre from the very beginning forty years ago - as she was fascinated by them since childhood. Memories of being at the beach and swimming in the sea exert a powerful influence on her sculptural ideas and practice. The strong rhythms of the tides and its association with natural cycles appear in the wave series sculptures. In 2013 she created a ten-foot high public sculpture, Wave, fabricated in steel, which was installed in Riverside Park South, Manhattan, for one year; it now permanently resides on the campus of Rockland Community College, in Suffern, New York. Her model for Wave, entitled Wave with Striped Bass, is included in the ASK exhibit.
