With the Ashokan to the north and Rondout Reservoir to the south, Ulster County is host to the water supply serving half of the State’s population, including all of New York City and more than a million people between here and there. The County is also soon to play host to the largest capital project the Catskills region has seen in generations. The City’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) – which operates and manages the water supply, is the County’s largest taxpayer and among its largest employers – is laying the groundwork for more than $1.3 billion in investments to bring the 110-year-old Ashokan Reservoir to a state of good repair. John Milgrim, a director for the DEP’s water supply and former Deputy Ulster County Executive throughout the pandemic, will join us for an overview of the billions of dollars of investments currently underway or soon to start, opportunities that may lie ahead, and the county’s ongoing partnership role in delivering the world’s gold standard in quality drinking water.
