This free seminar is designed for local business owners or managers that want to learn how their business can go green and save money by composting food waste. Come learn about the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency’s Commercial Composting Facility and Partners in Composting Program!
UCRRA accepts source-separated organics (food scraps) at the Organics Recovery Facility in Kingston. This FREE seminar will finish with a guided tour of UCRRA’s commercial composting operation Food waste (also called food scraps) makes up a large portion of the waste stream, especially for food establishments like cafes, coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, and diners. Food scraps are the uneaten or inedible scraps of food made during the preparation of meals (peelings, shavings, skins, cores of fruits and vegetables, etc.) or the uneaten foods, or ‘plate-scrapings’ post-consumer (cooked foods, pasta, meat bones, etc.). Food is too good to go to waste! 40% of the food grown in the US is never eaten! Food scraps can be managed more sustainably through composting.
