Retail Cornerstone Is Moving To A New Corner
Uptown Kingston Anchor Bop to Tottom is moving up…one block that is!
After a successful run of 15 years at the corner of John and Wall Streets in Uptown Kingston, well known and much loved anchor store of Uptown Kingston, Bop to Tottom, is moving to the corner of Wall and North Front Streets (334 Wall).
Owner/founder Karen Clark Adin sees this move as a means to further her commitment to serving our customers and giving back to the community in bigger ways. She likens the eclectic shopping experience one has at “Bop,” to a baby she birthed then nurtured from elementary through high school at its’ current location, but now knows it is time to accelerate her baby into “higher learning.”
Karen’s original vision has been fulfilled, but her dream continues to grow and evolve.
Bop to Tottom provides it’s customers with a vibrant and accessible collection of gifts and fashionable women’s clothing, while remaining a meeting and gathering place for their entire community, regardless of taste or style. There truly is something for everyone at Bop to Tottom and Bop’s top notch staff is always available to offer heartfelt assistance with a smile. “We strive to run a business judged on its merits, beyond its’ financial success – conscious commerce” says Karen. She continued, “the new location will allow us to expand not only our offerings but charitable giving as well.” She has plans to showcase local not-for-profits and create a “get your love on by shopping for a cause” weekend regularly, where a portion of sales will be gifted to the selected charity, changing throughout the year.
Humble as she is, Karen is reluctant to admit to the many awards and citations she and Bop have earned over the years. In 2007, she was named Small Business Woman of the Year by the YWCA of Ulster County. In 2008, Bop to Tottom received the Small Business of the Year Award by the Ulster County Development Corporation and the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce. Hudson Valley Magazine bestowed the title of “Best Gift Shop” upon Bop in 2009 and in 2012 Bop to Tottom won the Reader’s Choice Award for Best Gift Shop of the Daily Freeman. Additionally Karen has served on many philanthropic and educational Boards of Directors, and she is currently a Trustee at SUNY Ulster Community College.
A little known fact is that Bop to Tottom has in the past sponsored maintenance of the Peace Park, on the corner of North Front Street and Crown Street, with the help of a few neighbors of the park, since its inception 20 years ago. “Moving to the corner of Wall and North Front Streets will afford me the ability to take better care of the Peace Park since it will be in my line of sight every day.” Bop to Tottom also intends to care take the little green space at the top of Wall Street where the Uptown parking garage once stood. “With the Peace Park at the foot of the entrance to Uptown and the green space at the head of the street, those entering the area will see the new Bop to Tottom windows as the exclamation point to a wonderful expression of our neighborhood.
Further advantages to the new location are that it is within very close proximity to 3 municipal parking lots; it offers window shoppers fantastic views of what the store has to offer, it is one unified space with a back door for deliveries; and the office and stock room will be all on one floor, allowing Karen to be more present in the store’s day to day operations and being more available for spending time with all who enter.
If you know of a local 501c3 who would benefit from being part of Bop to Tottom’s new charitable “get your love on and shop for a cause” program please submit a letter in writing.
