DESCRIPTION:"Immigrant Gifts" is a month-long celebration featuring art exhibitions\, a film series (Thursdays\, May 12\, 19 & 26 at 7pm)\, storytelling presentation (Sunday\, May 29\, 3:00 - 5:00 pm) and a workshop on "migratory mourning" (Sunday\, May 22\, 1:00 - 4:00 pm)\n\n\n\nThe project has been organized by three collaborating community organizations: the Arts Society of Kingston (ASK)\, which is hosting the presentations\; the James Cox Gallery\, which represents the featured immigrant artist Joseph Garlock (1884-1980)\, whose colorful and individualistic work was discovered in 2000 by his children in a shed near Woodstock\; and the Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and History\, the event's organizer.\n\n\n\nThe Reher Center is restoring a historic bakery next to ASK to house a community archive and be a center for all immigrant groups that have shaped\, and continue to contribute to\, Kingston's Rondout neighborhood and the region's evolving identity.
