SUMMARY:Family of Woodstock Film Screening: "Women Helping
DESCRIPTION:Individual and family crisis support provider Family of Woodstock will screen a new short film\, "Women Helping Women\," on October 29 during Domestic Violence Awareness month.\n\n\n\nThe film was created by Ken McCarthy\, a former Family of Woodstock Board Member\, to spotlight the agency's pioneering efforts in 1980 to help domestic violence survivors get the support they needed to create a new life path. Presented mostly through online video interviews\, the film features women who were instrumental in creating the Washbourne House in Kington\, the first DV shelter opened between New York City and Albany. The group was also integral in the creation of Family's EVOLVE intervention program for domestic violence perpetrators.\n\n\n\nAfter the screening\, a panel made up of women featured in the film and current Family of Woodstock DV staff will discuss issues affecting women in 1980 and those current impacting women today.
